Using my Ask Charlie Cleaning Guide & Schedule to stay on top of everything! Let me show you how I give my daughter Coco's room a thorough clean...

I love to follow the schedule in my Ask Charlie Cleaning Guide.

It really does help me keep on top of my housework and helps to relieve stress as you know you’re tackling it all as the days go by! It’s completely invaluable to me during these uncertain times, the feeling of being in control of my home is quite calming!

Every Wednesday is ‘Bedroom’ day and once a month I like to give them a thorough clean, this Wednesday just gone was that day so I decided to film it for you!

My children do tidy their rooms and I encourage them to do so regularly, but I also like to get in there once a week so I know it’s getting a good clean and tackle the jobs they can’t manage - like moving the furniture and reaching up high.

To start, let me introduce you to my very favourite hoover, the Miele Cat & Dog!

This hoover has a number of different attachments, each with their own speciality. I particularly love the brush attachment as it does such a great job of dusting all over the home. I use this throughout my clean. Once it’s looking a bit dirty, you can simply take it off and give it a wash!

I’m also going to be using my trusty Spontex cloths. I just couldn’t sing their praises more! I have one damp, and one dry. They are perfect for dusting and giving everything a little clean and buff, but gentle at the same time. Obviously you don’t want to be using the damp one on any antique wood, so I won’t be using on Coco’s bed which came from Sigh’s Mother.

CHANGING THE BED

  • Start by stripping the bed, I like to turn the sheets so they are the right way out, and fold them back up before they go into the wash to reduce the need to iron! You can find out more about that in this blog post!

  • Next up, I like to use one of my very favourite product finds from when the children were little, the ‘Hippy Chick’ waterproof sheet from the wonderful Anita’s House. Anita’s House is a fantastic one-stop-shop for all things infant, I really recommend you check them out! Coco has no issues with night-time accidents, but I still like to have one of these sheets up at the head end for all children. This just protects the bed from any sickness or similar throughout the night.

  • Pop your fitted sheet over the top.

  • Next up, tackle the pillows. Our pillows have two pillowcases, one to protect the pillow itself and one on the outside. Always have both pillowcases with the opening at the same end. This ensures no rumpling on the pillow and a smooth finish.

  • Now to the duvet cover! I learnt a trick long ago to use double duvet covers on single beds. This stopped my children waking during the night because their duvet had fallen off the bed! It makes a world of difference, you can tuck them in properly and I’ve found it ensures a wonderful night’s sleep!

  • Keep your duvet covers stored inside out. This means that it’s much easier to change when the moment comes. Simply unfold your sheet, pop your arms into the opening and wiggle them down to find the top corners. Now grab your duvet itself by the top corners, flip inside out and do a little jig! You’ll know which is the bottom of the duvet as it should be where the label is.

  • More information on how I make my children’s beds can be found at this blog post.

HOOVERING & DUSTING

  • Start by hoovering from the very top of the room - don’t forget the curtain poles, on top of furniture etc!

  • Make your way down the room - this way dust can fall and settle onto the carpet, which we’re tackling next! Ensure you dust all shelves, anywhere that dust can gather.

  • Give the carpet a good once over.

  • Lift all that you can from the floor to get right into every area you can. Move the furniture if you can to reach right into the nooks and crannies with the appropriate hoover attachment.

You did it! Now step back and enjoy your work!
