Spice up the Christmas spirit with your very own homemade mulled wine!

I love mulled wine at this time of year.

It's so warm and comforting, but also great fun to have if you've got friends over to enjoy in the evening with nibbles or before dinner.

It is also known as Glühwein, and is served on the ski slopes!

Ingredients: Mulled Wine

Grated nutmeg

1 Orange

1 lemon

3 bay leaves

1 cinnamon stick

 A small handfulof Cloves

2 tablespoon of demerara sugar

1 bottle of red wine (Rioja)

2 tablespoons of sloe gin (Optional)

Method:

Grate a nutmeg.

Thinly pare off the zest of both the orange and lemon using a potato peeler .

Place the nutmeg, orange and lemon zest into a large saucepan.

Add the cloves, bay leaves, cinnamon stick and sugar to the pan.

Add the red wine and place on a gentle heat for 10 mins until the sugar has dissolved and the flavours have had a chance to infuse.

Take off the heat and add the sloe gin, mix well and strain into a bowl using a sieve.

Serve and enjoy!

Love,
