Let me take you on a quick tour of my cleaning caddy for the downstairs of my home!

Cleaning your home can be quite trying in itself if you don’t keep on top of it! So I’ve found one of the best ways to minimise unnecessary walking from room to room with a product here and a bottle there is to simply keep it all together in a handy caddy.

This way you can keep your collection of chosen cleaning products all together whilst stored away, as well as being able to move them around with you as you work on cleaning your home.

Here’s what I keep inside my wooden cleaning caddy for downstairs:

Cleaning Cloths:

  • Old yellow dusters - new ones leave fluff so I actually prefer them once they’re worn!

  • Spontex microfibre cloth - handy for buffing.

  • Spontex white cleaning cloth - I never throw these away, I just find new uses for them as they age. They always start their lives in my kitchen and then end up being used for jobs such as shoe cleaning!

  • John Lewis Microfibre Polishing Cloths

Products:

  • Method glass cleaner - I use this for all mirrors, windows and then splashback behind the Aga. You don’t need much, a little spritz goes a long way and the smell is gorgeous!

  • Method Antibacterial Spray - this kills 99.9% of bacteria so is great for kitchen worktops and dining tables.

  • Method Wooden Floor Cleaner - this is fantastic as you don’t actually need to prepare a mop and bucket - simply spray and wipe.

  • Wood Silk furniture polish - I don’t actually like aerosols and this is the only one I have, but it is really good for antique furniture - of which we have a lot!

  • Goddards Brass & Silver Cleaner - this is so good for looking after antique furniture. Simply pop a bit onto a cloth, work it in, wait a few minutes and then go back and buff to a shine.

  • Zoflora - I’m currently using Hello Spring scent which is beautifully fresh. You can either use this neat or it can be diluted into a bucket or spritz bottle. This is great for disinfecting whilst deodorising and as such is good for post-sickness. I also like to pop on a pair of my Lakeland moisturising rubber gloves and give the floors of the bathrooms and laundry rooms a good scrub with this by hand. This allows you to get right into the corners and along the skirting boards too!

  • Tableau Brass, copper and silver cleaning cloths - our light switches and door handles are brass, so these work really well when I just want to give them a little buff up. The same with the silverware. They’re so handy if you don’t have time to properly clean and they work a treat! You don’t even really need to buff afterwards as they produce a great shine themselves!

Other:

  • Toothbrush for difficult little areas with nooks and crannies.

  • Extendable and non-extendable microfibre dusters for if you have no time for a proper polish, just a quick wipe over! You can also use these to wipe down the walls as they grab any dust or cobwebs.

  • Ostrich feather duster - I got mine from The Range, who always have a wonderful selection of cleaning products. It’s super extendable so brilliant if you live in a barn or have high ceilings.

I hope you've found that useful, do you have any favourite products or items that you like to use to clean your home? I'd love to hear about them!

Love,
