How to give your beloved Aga a deep clean! A step-by-step guide to getting your Aga cooker thoroughly spotless and sparkling...

Today we’re getting right down to the nitty-gritty and giving the Aga a super deep clean!

I’ve had a lot of requests to film this as we approach Summer, and I absolutely loved filming it! It is a lot of hard work and a real workout, but my goodness the end result is so worth it!

I would recommend setting aside a couple of hours to tackle this, it’s not a quick job by any means. It’s thorough, you get right into every nook and cranny and we leave no area untouched, but when you step back and admire your work there is no feeling quite like it! Plus you get to relive that feeling each time you step into the kitchen afterwards!

I’ve written this blog post in step-by-step form so you can follow along with the video.

Firstly, let’s go through the apparatus and products you will want to have to hand.

  • Washing up bowl - filled with hot water and a little Fairy liquid

  • Hoover

  • Spontex Cloths or similar - keep one dry for buffing

  • Scouring sponge

  • Rubber gloves - I love Lakeland’s extra long gloves as they’re perfect for getting right to the back of the oven!

  • Brillo pads

  • Soda Crystals

  • Method glass cleaner

  • CIF Power & Shine spray

  • Barkeepers Friend Power Cream

  • A knife

  • Aga Scraper

Okay now let’s tackle to Aga section by section!

OVEN RACKS:

  • Fill your sink or a correctly sized receptacle with hot water and add soda crystals.

  • Put the oven racks in to soak for a couple of hours - if you do this first they should be done by the time you’re finished with everything else!

DOORS:

  • Remove oven doors - lift to remove - be careful as these are quite heavy!

  • Place them gently enamel side down on top of a teatowel so they don’t get scratched and stay put during the cleaning process.

  • Fill your sink/washing up bowl with soapy water and grab your Brillo pad.

  • Use the Brillo pads to clean the inside of the doors - do not use on outside of the door (enamel side).

  • Rinse the suds that have been leftover from the Brillo pad with your wet cloth.

  • Turn the door over to the enamel side.

  • Squirt a little Barkeepers Friend onto the surface and clean with a wet cloth - don’t forget the hinges.

  • Rinse, then use dry cloth to buff and shine.

AGA TOPS

  • Use your knife to loosen bits stuck between Aga and kitchen sides, and the scraper to loosen anything stuck on the top.

  • Hoover all the way around the edge of the Aga, all over the back and fronts, and the kitchen area around it.

  • Hoover inside the ovens, the back, don’t forget the electrical area too if you have it as that can get dusty.

  • Try to get as much dirt as you can with the hoover first before getting stuck into the deep cleaning.

INSIDES

  • Dampen a Brillo pad, and get scrubbing!

  • Give it a good rinse with your wet cloth and repeat if needed.

  • WARNING - This is something that you really cannot do when the oven is on! Do not attempt to!

AGA LIDS - UNDERSIDE

  • It is difficult to clean lids when hot, so leave them up for hour or so and then tackle if need be. Just a warning that you will end up getting very hot!

  • Use Brillo pads on the underside - will take some scrubbing but the dirt will come off eventually!

AGA RINGS

  • Use your scraper and knife to get right into the cracks and hinges, and scrape out as much of the dirt around the rings as you can.

  • Keep you bowl of water and hoover nearby ready to get rid of any of these bits you may have just loosened.

  • Use the scraper around the edges of the rings to really get as much off as you can.

  • Spray a little of your CIF if need be to loosen any tough bits during scraping.

  • Work your way all the around with your utensils.

  • Squirt your CIF directly on to clean the rings themselves.

AGA LIDS - TOPS

  • Grab your scouring sponge and Barkeepers Friend.

  • Do not use the scouring side of the sponge on the metal sections as it may scratch, but you can use it on the black sections around the edge of the lid.

  • Use the softer side to clean the metal tops.

  • Use soda crystals on your wet sponge to tackle any tougher marks.

TOP SURFACE & FRONT -

  • Use your Barkeepers Friend Power Cream around the tops with the damp Spontex cloth.

  • Use your dry cloth to buff and shine up the top.

  • Use the same process to clean and buff the front.

EXTRA -

  • Use Method glass cleaner to further shine the metal tops if you wish!

Reattach your doors and you’re done! Step back and enjoy your work! I bet it looks incredible!!!
