How best to clean your floors and ensure they stay in tip-top condition...
This week we’re talking all about floors and keeping them clean!
I’m going to demonstrate to you how I clean both wooden and ceramic tile floors in a handy step by step so you can follow along with me!
Wooden Floors:
Pick up and move all dog and cat beds, rugs or anything that gathers dirt/hairs etc. Pop these outside if it’s dry so you can reach as much of the floor as possible.
If you’re cleaning around dining chairs etc, turn these upside down and carefully rest them on top of the table for easier access.
Give the floor a good hoover. Use this time to check for any really dirty areas or marks to tackle during the next steps!
Quick Mop:
Grab your mop and bucket (I love the Vileda Turbo Smart Mop) and fill with warm water.
Squeeze a few drops of Fairy Liquid into the water and give it a little swash around. I find that Fairy Liquid is incredibly effective in removing grime and always come back to using it!
Wring your mop to within an inch of its life - wooden floors hate water so you do need to use the absolute minimum.
Get mopping! I like to use short sweeping motions to ensure every area gets a good scrubbing.
Conditioning Mop:
For a mop that includes a conditioning treatment too, Method Wooden Floor Cleaner is fantastic. It has the most wonderful scent of almonds, and it treats the wood as you mop.You don’t need to use any water, you simply spray onto the floor and mop! Treat the areas in pieces so the liquid doesn’t dry up by the time you get to it.
Deep Clean:
Every three months or so or If your floor is really dirty, it’s time for a deep clean.
Grab a washing up bowl or use your mop bucket and fill it with warm water and a couple of drops of Fairy.
Put on some rubber gloves and grab a floor cloth.
Get down onto the floor to wash it by hand. This can hurt your knees and is quite labour intensive but oh so worth it! Get into every nook and cranny and give the whole floor a really good once over.
Ceramic Tile Floors:
Thorough Clean:
Give the whole area a good hoover to remove any hair and settled dust.
Grab your washing up bowl and pop around a quarter of a capful of Zoflora into it. Zoflora is fabulous for bathroom floors as not only does it clean it also disinfects. This of course is especially important in children’s bathrooms where there may be a couple of accidents every now and then. I love the Linen Fresh scent, but it comes in so many other fragrances so you’re sure to find one you love!
Put your rubber gloves on and using your floor cloth, give the water and Zoflora a good swish around.
Ring out your cloth as much as you can, again you don’t want the floor to be too wet especially in case of slips.
Squat down onto the floor (this posture is supposed to be very good for you!) and wipe the whole floor over. Get right into every area, give special attention to the area around the loo.
There we have it! Clean, fresh and conditioned flooring in the home!
Love,
