Lockdown locks round three! It's time to cut Sigh's hair...
This week I'm here with dear Sigh, who is going to let me show you all how I cut his hair.
Now, I am not a hairdresser. I hate cutting hair, to be honest. But we're in our third lockdown and we're all having to make do of the situation and do the best that we possibly can. So I'm going to show you how to do a bit of a tidy up and a few tricks I have learned in the last few lockdowns.
You need some clippers. I use horse clippers… and I hadn't told him that until we recorded this week's video! They're great, I use them for trimming the ponies and they have come in so handy for this. They have got a few different settings as well, which is extra handy.
A sharp pair of scissors is pretty essential too.
A towel for the shoulders and a clip to keep it on.
I do this in a rather unusual way, and I do have to start by telling Sigh to just be quiet and let me get on with it! I don't use the clippers in the standard way of going in an upwards motion. It scares me and I don't want to take too much off and end up with my husband looking like a wally.
I use Number Six to start with. I would rather start slowly and take off more. I use the clippers in a downwards motion, to begin with, and this works to just take off the worst.
Now this is not the way hairdressers would do it and they'd probably be horrified, but it's a way I have found works the best!
Using the clippers this way you can take out the fluffiness, without having that really dramatic look.
Once the bulk is done, I change to Number Three. I'm going to go upwards motion a little bit and just tidy around his ears and sideburns.
Now I've even been using this on the top of Sigh's head, using the clippers to hold the hair, and just taking little bits off the top which just reduces the length without going for a really dramatic, scalped look, which we don't want!
You'll notice that I didn't give Sigh a mirror. I don't want him to see what I'm doing!
As with anything, stand back, have a look, see what you think and work from there.
Take the towel off, give it a bit of a shake and move on to do the neck.
Get your partner to look right down, as far as they can to stretch the back of the neck. Remove any attachment you have on the clippers so you're just down to the blades themselves.
Tidy up around the hairline, and down the neck.
Now for the scissors! Ask your partner to keep very still. Don't move a muscle. Grab your sharp scissors (I use sewing scissors!) and tidy up around the ears.
Again, stand back and judge if any areas need a little more clipping!
And there we have it! Lockdown locks in just a couple of easy steps.
Thank you for tuning in, and good luck with cutting your loved one's hair!
Love, Charlie x
