Midhurst and Petworth are beautiful all year round, but particularly during these glorious Autumnal days.
They are two of my favourite towns, and we are so lucky to have them right here on our doorstep. I’ve got everything I could possibly want here, so really there’s no need for me to go elsewhere!
I think it’s so important to celebrate, encourage and support our independents so they thrive for years to come, so I really do implore you to get out there and really take in your local town. Think about shopping with them this Christmas, go and have a browse and utilise their enormous wealth of knowledge! You certainly don’t get the same experience with online shopping!

Emma O’Malley runs Midhurst’s very own eco-salon, using only vegan products. Emma took the salon over from her Father, and specialises in colour treatments. They do the most incredible styling for events such as weddings, the races and Goodwood revival, and the products they stock are fantastic. All are locally made and natural, plus they smell unreal! I love the use the Bergamot and Ginger as it gives me a real lift.

The family and I often come here for Sunday Lunch or even a cheeky spa treatment. It's the most beautiful place, with accommodations should you wish to stay overnight. Simon used to come in here for afternoon tea after attending school nearby, so has very fond memories.

Run by dear friend Lucy, I've been coming here for years to admire (and take home!) lots of treasures! Always a feast for the eyes, The Country Brocante is inspired by interiors and the passion for crafts and is run by founder Lucy and her wonderful team from their Sussex Store in Midhurst and Annabel in the Cotswolds.
Lucy has grown the shows from small monthly village hall markets into large highly attended and regarded interior shows held at prestigious venues and country estates.
You'll always find something unique at The Country Brocante store, a place championing small businesses, creating beautiful spaces for merchants and makers to showcase their collection on the high street. Curating the very best in French Brocante, English Interiors and new designers, it is a place to meet, shop and support small businesses.

Caroline Bloomfield offers a one-stop shopping experience for a wide range of clothes, antique furniture and household goods with a strong emphasis on natural products and sustainability. This is the most wonderful place if you have little ones or are shopping for little ones. The window displays are always amazing and so exciting! They stock such an array of toys, as well as great stocking ideas and really fun crafty and creative items to get little imaginations flowing!
Open since May 2017 on West Street in Midhurst, Wizzbits Toys are a small one-off, traditional family-run business run by qualified primary school teacher Freya with the help of the small but happy Wizzbits team!

Run by fabulous Antonia, I am thrilled that Madeleines Deli is here in Midhurst so I can enjoy all of the goodies! They stock my very favourite Donker rye bread which I slather with butter and my homemade jam.
Every shelf is stocked with wonderful products that you just can't get everywhere else, a lot of which is locally sourced and beyond delicious. They also have an outdoor seating area!
They serve excellent coffee, fabulous big fat deli sandwiches, a huge range of the best cheeses, local charcuterie and smoked fish, dry goods, cakes, pastries and a Deli Counter packed full of freshly baked produce from their Bakehouse. They also create convenient meal pots or soups, plus custom made picnic hampers for Goodwood, Cowdray Polo or just a day out in the countryside!
On top of all that, they also stock wares from Jo Shapiro Living for flowers, lovely planted pots and vases, Hawkins Brothers for the best of English Wine, Herbert Hedley's carefully curated collection of original art and hand-made lovely things, Edge of the Meadow for beautifully designed kitchen and tableware products & Dada Duka for stunning woven baskets from Kenya.

This is always my first port of call when we need anything for the horses. They have such a great selection and the girls are really helpful. They really take their time, and if you keep the receipt you can have a check-up to make sure everything is still fitting well so the customer service is second to none.
They are well known in West Sussex as a great shop to buy outdoor clothing. They have a fantastic range of Outdoor gear at incredibly good prices, plus a great choice of footwear including wellies, country boots and walking boots. They also carry the very best value for money waterproof coats and jackets.
They also offer a comprehensive range of horse products that have been carefully selected to provide everything you require for horse and rider at a price you can afford. All the staff share a passion for the outdoors and for customer service.

One of the most beautiful Holiday Lets I've ever seen, right in the heart of Midhurst.
A two-bedroom boutique holiday hideaway, Marianne has styled it so beautifully. It sleeps 4, with little dogs welcome!
So much of the interior is locally sourced by local craftsmen or pieces that she has found and restored herself.
Marianne has sorted everything you could possibly need for a stay, and it just feels so comfortable - with a beautiful sitting room complete with fireplace and dining room full of colour. It's also so peaceful, you are in the heart of Midhurst yet it's super quiet despite being walking distance from everything!

Oakapple is an independent shop owned and operated by owners Ben and Tamsin in Petworth. Both are passionate about finding and selling recognisable British brands of textiles, ceramics and everything for the home. You can find treasures from Emma Bridgewater, St Eval candles, Bronte by Moon, Quail Ceramics, Newgate Clocks, Raine and Humble and Garden Trading amongst others all gathered under one roof.
This lovely store stocks fabulous things for Christmas! With a great selection of cosy blankets, sheepskin rugs, tonnes of lighting, and generally just wonderful things for the house. It's my first place to come whenever I need anything!

Petworth Antiques Market hosts an abundance of antique talent all under one roof, displayed over 275 square metres.
In January 2015, the market was refurbished and after 5 months and a lot of patience and anticipation, it reopened its freshly painted doors to the public. I love popping in and seeing what they have, there is always something unusual and wonderful, from walking sticks to linens, table cloths and beautiful lighting. I love to come and get Coco's vintage pieces for her sidesaddle in here.

Red Card always has the most incredible collections and such beautiful taste. I was so excited to see they have their advent calendars in stock! They have such special ones that I buy for Coco every year - we hold on to them as they're traditional, old fashioned and beautiful keepsakes.

Owned by the fabulous Paul, Chequers Antiques is an independent antique shop located in the centre of Petworth and has been trading since it opened in March 2009. Paul specialises in furniture, clocks, silver and decorative items. Their stock is available to view online, or at their premises at the Playhouse Gallery.
This is somewhere I come if I'm looking for something special such as a christening present, jewellery, anything! Chequers is always my first port of call. I tell Paul what I'm looking for and he will source it, without fail.

Allans of Petworth have been clothing the gentlemen (and some ladies) of West Sussex and beyond for more than 50 years. They are essentially a menswear shop but as a Dubarry stockist sell quite a few pairs of boots and coats to ladies too! Callum and Jan bought the shop in 2012 and work very hard to ensure that each shopping experience is personalised. They carry an extensive range of stock and if they don't have what you want they'll do their best to source it!
I get a lot for Sigh in here! Great for absolutely everything a man's wardrobe could need, from bow ties and sports jackets to socks, with some super vibrant and fun options!
Coco Café & Sugar Lounge

Coco Café & Sugar Lounge opened in October of 2008 and has been a hit since, providing locals and visitors with quality coffees and nibbles.
We call it 'Cheers' because when Gussy was little and hadn't started school I'd bring him here to have a hot chocolate and we'd always say Cheers as we drank together! They do the best hot chocolate in town!
