Beautifully scented, homemade firelighters - an affordable and natural alternative to shop-bought!
I love the scents of Christmas. The spicy, warm and homely smells that come with the season just bring such a smile to my face!
This is why making a nice large batch of my homemade pinecone firelighters is top of my to-do list every year as the season's turn. I collect as many as possible as they drop around June, and squirrel them away ready for the cold.
Scroll down to watch how I make them!
You will need:
Pine cones
Soy Wax
Essential Oil
A Bain-Marie set up
Newspaper
Baking Parchment
Prepare your area with newspaper and baking parchment - this protects against any spills.
Pour your soy wax into your glass bowl and drop your scented oil into the granules. I tend to add quite a lot as I just adore the smell making its way through the house whenever you light a fire. You can choose any scent you like! You can also add a coloured dye if you wish.
Pop the wax mixture over the bainmarie and take over to the stove.
Once melted, drop your pine cones into the wax, give them a good dunk and place them onto the baking parchment to set. This can be messy, but it's also super satisfying!
Once your pinecones are set, knock off any excess wax back into the bowl ready for another batch.
You can see how I use these firelighters myself in my blog post 'How to safely & efficiently light a toasty fire for the colder seasons'
Happy fire-lighting!
Love, Charlie
