A highly requested Aga hack! How to cook directly on the hot plate...

I’ve noticed this question come up a number of times and although I did go over it slightly in my ‘Cook a Full English Breakfast using the Aga’ blog post a while back, I wanted to go a little more into detail this week!

Let’s dive right in!

First up, do not use the hotter of your two plates. Whatever you put on there will burn! The lower heat one will be more than enough.

Give the hot plate a little scrape with your utensil of choice and wipe with a piece of kitchen roll - mind your fingers! You can grab the hoover to quickly get rid of any messy bits too.

You can use a little bacoglide cut to shape to cook on top of if you’d prefer, but you are able to cook directly onto the hot plate! In this week’s video I demonstrated this with pancakes.

Get yourself another piece of kitchen paper and wipe the whole plate over with oil to prep the area.

Pour the pancake batter straight onto the hot plate. Don’t overcrowd the plate!

You can pop the top down if you wish, but I like to keep an eye on the pancakes and give them a flip when little bubbles start to appear on the top.

Remove your pancakes and repeat!

The real trick with cooking on top of the hot plate is to keep on top of your cleaning. Make sure they are free from any bits of burnt food and do use a little oil to prevent food from sticking.

I hope that helps, I’d love to see what you cook on there so don’t forget to tag me on socials @askcharliehow!

Love,
